1946년 양국 런던에서 출생한 그녀는 미녀 여성가수이며 영화배우이기도 하다
오스트리아의 귀족의 딸로 태어난 그녀는 8살, 어린 나이에 성 요셉 수녀원 병설 학교에
입학하여 기숙사에서 지내며 엄격한 교육을 받아야 했다.
여고시절 우연히 앤드류 루그 올드햄을 만나 그러한 생활은 완전히 달라지게 된다.
그리고 롤링 스톤즈의 믹 재거 도움으로 싱글 노래하여 빅히트시킨다.
계속되는 성공의 가도 속에서 결혼하여 아들을 낳았지만 곧 이혼하고 믹 재거와 동거생활을 시작하였다.

함께 마약 소지 및 복용 혐의로 체포되기도 했다.
'Million Cigarette Voice'(담배를 많이 피운 허스키한 목소리)라는 '세기의 목소리'라고도 불리는 Marianne Faithfull의 별명이다.
