Slim Whitman - Annie Laurie

 

1825년 스코틀랜드의 존 스콧이 작곡하였다.
티 없이 아름답고 고왔던 소녀를 그리워하며
천천히 부르는 5음 음계의 곡이다.

애니 로리는 스코틀랜드 덤프리스시(市)
맥스웰턴 하우스에 살던
로버트 로리 경의 딸로서 실제 인물이었다.
그녀는 사관학생 윌리엄 더글러스를 사랑했지만
결혼은 다른 남자와 하였다.
더글러스는 자기 곁을 떠난 애니 로리를
그리워 하며 1820년에 이 시를 지었다.

그뒤 1825년에 존 스콧 부인이 시집
《스코틀랜드의 노래》에서 이 시를 발견하고
곡을 붙여 《애니 로리》라고 하였고,
핀레이 던이 반주를 넣어
1838년 에든버러에서 출판된
《스코틀랜드 민요집》에 실었다.

이후 크림전쟁이 일어나자 크림반도에 상륙한
스코틀랜드 군인들이 고향에 두고 온
사랑하는 여인을 그리워하며
이 노래를 부르기 시작하면서 널리 퍼져나갔다.
